On the last day of our journey, we went to Universal Studios in Orlando. It was a Thursday and the weather was mild and cool, temperatures in the 50’s. I was amazed at the level of control over every facet of organization from the parking where attendants directed each car to a specific spot in covered parking (not one parking space is wasted!) to the continual upkeep of the streets. Very clean, well-organized……impressive.
After entering through security gates which involved a thumbprint to verify identity (very cool!) we headed straight to the back and began with the rides at the end so that when we left the park we would be closer to the entrance. It also gave us the advantage of smaller lines. The technology is fabulous. You can tell the older rides by the level of technology, not to criticize…..only as a comment because they were all fun. But the best one? Hands down, it is their newest one, the Transformers. We not only went on it a second time while we there, but we would have gone a third if we did not have a flight to catch. On the streets the attention to detail in each of the shops was like stepping back in time. I wish we could have had more time, but we only had one day and had to catch our flight that evening. I would love to go back and spend another day and also the evening. The tickets are not cheap, that’s for sure but I think the cost is well worth it. The only thing I could find fault with was the food within the ride area. Not really much choice and quite expensive. I was hoping that after the price of the ticket the food would be more reasonable but it was not. Burger, fries and a drink? $8 to $10. We finally settled on a shop where we were able to purchase salad greens topped with grilled chicken. About $5 for each bowl. A little pricey for the content, but not too unreasonable. I know that Universal offers a section called CityWalk where there are several restaurants before you enter the entertainment areas. But within the area where there are rides, I felt the food offering was lacking. |
